» Viaje a Londres
Como alguno sabéis, acabo de regresar de Londres, esta ha sido mi primera toma de contacto. Es una ciudad inmensamente poblada, con gente a todas horas por la calle. A pesar de todo, desde pleno centro histórico, es posible hacer algo de Astronomía. Al anochecer, desde el puente de Westminter, mientras Júpiter luchaba por no caer dentro de la bruma del Támesis, Arturo se apreciaba con facilidad cerca del Big Ben. Fijaros en el puntito que se ve arriba a la derecha.
La abadía de Westminster es un verdadero santuario donde se encuentran enterradas alguna de los más importantes monarcas y personalidades de la historia del país. Enrique VII, Isabel I, María Tudor.….
Dentro de la abadía, uno de los lugares más visitados y famosos es el rincón de los poetas, donde se encuentran enterrados algunos emblemáticos literatos británicos, como Charles Dickens . Menos fama tiene la zona de los científicos, a pesar de que hay enterradas destacadas figuras del país que han sido fundamentales para asentar la ciencia moderna de hoy día, tal como Charles Darwin o Isaac Newton . Lo que no sabía y me llevé una gran sorpresa es que allí se encuentran también las lápidas de William Herschel y su hijo John . Fue algo realmente emocionante. Esta es una de las visitas obligadas que hay que hacer en Londres, es impresionante.
Muchos relojes y de diferentes tipos pudimos ver, pero os quiero mostrar este reloj de Sol en una soleada tarde en un colegio de Oxford. Quizá no haya demasiadas tardes al año en las que luzca con tanto esplendor.
Todavía quedaba una visita obligada por hacer, pero eso será en una próxima historia….

Enhorabuena por la crónica, Rafa. Londres es una ciudad fascinante, con una vida cultural agitadísima y donde es imposible aburrirse si tienes un mínimo de inquietudes.
Se te ha pasado comentar la lápida de Edmond Halley que hay en el claustro sur de la Abadía de Westminster.
Mi "Destino astronómico" de noviembre es precisamente el que te falta por contar :-)
